For San Diego native and photography enthusiast Arie Eric De Jong, any art enthusiast who’s seen a good example of time-lapse photography knows how cool it can be. And any photographer knows the amount of work put into it. While it can be frustrating for photographers who aren’t used to it, time-lapse photography can be as rewarding as any photography genre out there.

To help new photographers, Arie Eric De Jong shares some important tips on the genre.

Setting up the shoot

Preparation is important in any photography genre. However, prepping for time-lapse photography is a different animal altogether. Time-lapse photos take time, which means every moment counts when photographers plan their shot. Arie Eric De Jong mentions that to get ready for that perfect shot, photographers have to do many things, including but not limited to positioning the shot, identifying the shots’ exact time frame, knowing travel time, and getting the equipment together.

What to bring

Any photographer who’s done time-lapse photography will testify to the frustration they feel when they have to deal with the camera’s shaking or movement, which ruins the shoot altogether. A solid camera stand is more than important. That said, there are other things to consider, such as objects that get in the way of the shot, Arie Eric De Jong adds.
